IPL equipment produces energy in order to disrupt the growth element of each hair follicle to reduce hair growth. With IPL energy is produced by a lamp, a little like a light bulb, that emits a variety of light waves, meaning that it is more diffuse (than a laser machine) and consequently will hit more variations of depth of hair follicle.

Although far less effective than IPL hair removal, electrolysis is still a fairly commonly used procedure that aims to remove unwanted hair – though it does require a much greater commitment and can work out much more expensive over a course of treatments in comparison to more modern methods, such as laser hair removal.

Electrolysis hair removal is medically approved by the FDA and can remove unwanted hairs from any area of the body. The treatment used to be particularly popular for men and women who wanted to permanently remove facial hair, which cannot be easily hidden under clothing like other undesired body hair.
